Homeschooling-Ideas Interview

By Interviewer at 10/08/09 13:31

Name of your website?

Homeschooling-Ideas

Your name?

Julie

Your Location (city, etc)

Norfolk

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Homeschooling-ideas brings you ideas, books and resources to use in your homeschooling.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I homeschool myself and know how easy it is to get stuck in a rut. But I love trying new ideas and resources and then sharing those with my friends.

Starting the website was an extension of that. I wanted to help other homeschoolers try some new activities and bring back the fun of homeschooling. I hope they use it as a way to get some fresh ideas and maybe use it as a starting point for thinking up some activities their kids will enjoy.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Boring workbooks and printables are out! Homeschooling isn't about sitting your kids down and handing them a worksheet. They will never learn anything that way. My website gives homeschoolers ideas of real activities and projects they can try, with lots of advice about homeschooling thrown in.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Putting up each page has been really hard. I use the activities that we use ourselves in our homeschooling, and try to provide as much information as I can about the project. But hitting that publish button and sending the idea out into the big wide world is really scary.

I am also surprised at how much the site has changed me. In answering my readers questions about how to start homeschooling, I have realised that I DO have some worthwhile homeschooling experience that I can share.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

My newsletter has been a great way of spreading the word. People pass on the newsletter to their friends, who then sign up.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I am most surprised about how much more we now do as homeschoolers! I pull together lots of ideas each month for my newsletter - and that means I have to try lots more activities! In searching out fresh ideas for my newsletter - I have found lots of great things for my family to try.

What is your website address?
