Start Learning Interview

By Interviewer at 03/11/08 07:44

Name of your website?

Start Learning

Your name?

Wils

Your Location (city, etc)

Glasgow

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Distance learning training courses. Vocational and academic home study courses, including GCSEs and A Levels. Professional development by elearning

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I decided to launch the site as i felt there was a lack of good sites offering distance learning courses or study from home courses. Also i feel that the courses offered through start learning are excellent and can offer great benefits to end users looking to advance their career.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was launched a few years ago and it was to sell office products, like ink, furniture etc. It is quite successful even today.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I just thought about what the site was going to relate to, what people would maybe put in when they were searching for courses or wanting to to start to learn something.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

I think my site offers value and good courses that don’t cost the earth. People should be able to learn and gain knowledge without being held to ransom.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I reall dont know what im going to do in the future, ill just take it as it comes.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I think i invest a lot more time and money at the moment, but hopefully it pays off at some point

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd probably try develop a lot of the courses myself.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Of coarse, if its going to grow that quick then you would have the additional funds to employ the staff and purchase resource

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Ive not really had too much to deal with at the moment, advertising probably is the biggest cost i have had.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding suppliers that dont charge and arm and a leg.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I think i have use both online and offline advertising, i think they are both important.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It hasn't really at the moment as its all new, but maybe it will change.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Its been up for a little while, but ive really only started promoting it int he last couple of months

How do you see the internet changing?

Over the years it has changed a lot, i think broadband has had a lot to do with that, makes sites more accessible.

What is your website address?
