Please give us a short summary of your website?
High School English Teacher provides homework, revision aids, powerpoints, texts and student scripts to help English students study for exams. Based in Bannerman High School Glasgow.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Sheer frustration that the faculty web page has been under construction for ten years but never quite made it into cyberspace. I could have died before the school web site got actual.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
It was this site and I launched it Spring 2008.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I just named it to make it easy for students to remember.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I put real manuscripts of student work (minus names but with full consent) so students can see what a top grade essay is like.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I want my students to be inspired to dump the website and read great literature.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I do not get any financial return. This is a labour of love.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would add some group talk and solo talk video clips.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I don't know. Probably not.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None really. It has been a win-win process all the way.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to keep the site small enough to fit within the parameters of the host.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth among colleagues.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I did not expect that I would be adding and modifying constantly to keep the site fresh.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Maybe four months. Forever!
What is the best thing about the site?
The jokes. Look at the "Figures of Speech" download and you'll see what I mean.
