By Interviewer at 01/23/09 08:24

Name of your website?

Pakistaniaat: A Journal of Pakistan Studies

Your name?

Masood Raja

Your Location (city, etc)

Akron

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Pakistaniaat: A Journal of Pakistan Studies is a peer-reviewed, multi-disciplinary electronic journal offering a forum for a serious academic and creative engagement with various aspects of Pakistani culture, literature, and politics. Thus, Pakistaniaat aims to provide a public space on the Internet to introduce and discuss hitherto neglected aspects of Pakistani cultural and literary production and to make this knowledge available to a worldwide audience.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To provide a chance to emerging writers and scholars to publish their work.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In 2002, it was my personal website: masoodraja.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It is derived from Urdu word Pakistan and means all things related to Pakistan.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It is one of the few academic journals attempting to offer a venue for those intereted in writing about Pakistan.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To be a successful academic journal.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It is a labor of love, so just doing it is rewarding.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would make it more interactive.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, but I would probably need a lot of help.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Not many: my wife and all friends are helping.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning how to use the technological tools.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth and advertising on personal websites.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Not much.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

This site has been up for a week and i plan to keep it going.

Replace this with a question of your own

Where else can I post information about my website?

What is your website address?

Pakistaniaat: A Journal of Pakistan Studies
