Arabesk Studies in Damascus Interview

By Interviewer at 01/20/09 12:29

Name of your website?

Arabesk Studies in Damascus

Your name?

Muhammad Iskandar

Your Location (city, etc)

Damascus

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The best place to study arabic. Professional services and teaching. Personal courses and tailored programs.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

the ignorance, prejudices, stereotypes and the gap between cultures and peoples after 11 Sept. Also my love for Arabic language, which is extremely beautiful, wide and very expressive.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

www.arabeskstudiesindamascus.com in 2003

How did you decide on a name for your website?

ARABESK: to combine between Arabic, oriental, Damascus

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

we know what we are talking about, we master arabic language and we know how to teach it to foreign students with different backgrounds and languages (english speakers, French, Spanish ...). Not all arabs can teach arabic (the same for any other language). it is not because your are spanish that you are good in teaching spanish and you can transmit our knowledge of language.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

that people from all around the world can learn and master arabic, taste this beautiful and deep language, get to know our culture, understand us and help us to build bridges around the world, while others are breaking them.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

we work a lot, 6 days a week, we give a lot, we dont spare in efforts and receive less in counterparty. but our success comes when we give a good teaching and services, when students love and appreciate the beauty of arabic language, and go back to their countries with a good level, where they can speak, understand, read and write easily.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

i would buy an arabic oriental house to have our office in and a place to classes for the students, and nice accommodation for students.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

yes, because we are a flexible organisation, with many private teachers (males and females), accommodations and families, we can adapt ourselves to the needs of the students, all year long.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

seldom lazy students and missunderstandings

What has been your biggest challenge?

to set up Arabesk Studies in Damascus

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

internet search, Google and first of all: being serious and professional with the students, who, in the future send us other students.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Internet goes too fast!!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

our objective is not fortune, celebrity or being famous. we want to transmit a message, that Westerners understand Islam and Muslims.

Replace this with a question of your own

are you ready to come to study arabic with Arabesk Studies in Damascus?

What is your website address?

Arabesk Studies in Damascus
